Eyes Wide Open

Film-Screening

Short Movies about migration selected by Villa Romana and diyalog

At Salt Galata, September 20, 6:00 pm

“Eyes Wide Open” shows a selection of movies from Italy and Turkey mainly produced by migrants themselves. The presentation wants to underline the importance of empowering migrants to tell their own authentic story in contrary to the common TV-style of programs documenting suffering for a more and more bored audience. The Filmmakers give a totally different image of their world and their journeys. The stories are passionate, personal narrated and full of a universal symbolism.

The Villa Romana is a no-profit residence for artists and a center for contemporary art is a place of contemporary artistic production and of international exchange. The Villa strives to interact with artists and the public, expand its international network and promoting communication with the cultures of the Mediterranean area. Director Angelica Stepken initiated the round table Gravity for All as a network to support artist that just arrived in Europe. The screened short films emerged from different filmmakers working in Italy and films produced in a Video-Network initiated and directed by Thomas Büsch and Sabine Küper-Büsch in Istanbul.
