Carmela, don Gregorio, Gabriella and Lorella don’t know each other but they have a lot in common. In the middle of 60ees, at the culmination of the great migratory wave, they arrived in Switzerland. And here, they have lived the Schwarzenbach’s years listening to the very young singer Gigliola Cinquetti, became famous after winning San Remo’s Festival in the 1964. Four stories crossing the notes of one of the most popular songs of the era, telling of hopes, dreams, solidarity but also (and especially) of closure, xenophobia, clandestine and exploitation. Four stories more current than ever.

The Wandering Tower is the title of a surrealist short story by Sergej Prokofiev from the times of vivid migration movements on the edge of the world wars.
The Festival was quoting the title as a metaphorical frame for Mahalla 2020/2021. The tower of Babel is connected as a motive to the search for the origin of language and the access to the divine.
