The Mahalla Festival is participating at the Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair (11.-15. September 2019) with three young female artists: Nora Byrne, Pınar Derin Gençer, Mathilde Melek An.
Artist and Curator Pınar Derin Gençer is pending between Stockholm and İstanbul. She is the founder and creative director of Istanbul Performance Art, Stockholm Performance Art, 24 Hours Art, and chief curator of Open Performance Space.
French-Turkish artist Mathilde Melek An participated at the Mahalla Malta Festival with the performance-appearance of Golddess at the Palazzo in Zabbar and the Installation TOOLBOX #1 // Travelling Light // 2018/ at the Mahalla Share House in Museum Fortress Builders.
Nora Byrne is an American artist living in İstanbul. Her first Solo-Show in town, “Dolaşmak/Wander”, at Nadas in Yeldeğirmen-Kadıköy was an exhilarating breeze regarding positions to the rapid change of the Megalopolis. Found Paper-Collages and drawings are the products of long wandering tours in the city.
At the fair the artists will present Found-Paper Collages, Drawings, Photos, Installations and Performances. A unique chance to explore very promising talents and to meet the organizers of a rapidly growing internationally traveling Art-event around the topics of migration and its causes.

Palimpsest
The title, Palimpsest, originally denotes a piece of writing material on which the original writing has been erased to make room for later writing.
However, traces of the overwritten texts remain.
This paleographic phenomenon will inspire the artists of the Mahalla Festival 2022. They will be concerned with the use of resources in a
comprehensive way: in terms of ecological, economic, political, social and communal memory culture.
