The Italian artist Filippo Riniolo is participating into the Mahalla Festival with an interactive performance/installation with the title The Attempt of a Poem in the frame of a residency program by MagiC Carpets. MagiC Carpets is a Creative Europe platform uniting 16 European cultural organisations that create opportunities for emerging artists to embark on journeys to unknown lands and to create, together with local artists and local communities, new works that highlight local specificities. Latitudo Art Projects in Rome is a partner of the network and nominated Riniolo to participate in the Mahalla Festival. The emerging curators Ilayda Tunca in Istanbul and Paola Farfaglio in Rome manage the implementation of Filippo’s art project for the Festival.
Born in Milan, Riniolo graduated in 2011 from the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome. Riniolo displays his works in form of live performances and documenting it with video, painting and poetry. The backstage of the production is the main focus of his works as outcomes; his approach is to adapt appropriate techniques within the context.
Within the scope of the Mahalla Festival, Riniolo is offering an interactive workshop series that is inspired by an epic genre called "Nostos". "Nostos" refers to the narratives of heroes from ancient Greek literature. Best-known examples of the genre are Homer’s Iliad, Odyssey and Virgil’s Aeneid.
Riniolo invites the public to active participate into the process of creating an art work.
The aim of the workshop is to reinvent an alternative appearance of the Trojan Horse, The workshop will realized three sessions in total, and is devoted to organizing a 'queer nostos’. A new narrative, a joint poem to perform a chorus with the participants through contempo-queer art communities in Kurtuluş.
The language of the workshop depends on the participant's preference, and the workshop is open to all languages. Translation will be provided upon request.

Conditions of participation:
- Each workshop will take place with 5-10 people and the event is open to participants from all groups.
- Communicativeness, verbal involvement
- Positive attitude towards everyone & no discrimination towards no one
- Each participant is expected to complete at least one full participation to one whole session.
- Workshops will be documented in photography, video and audio media. Participants are deemed to have given permission for audio and video recording.
- The workshops will have a pre-reading not exceeding 500 words and the participants are expected to have done these readings at the workshops.

Mahalla Festivali, 2022: Palimpsest kapsamında gerçekleşecek Filippo Riniolo'nun Bir Şiir Denemesi atölye serisi, antik Yunan edebiyatından kahramanların Truva'dan sonra eve dönüş yolculuklarında yaptıkları anlatılara atıfta bulunan "Nostoi" adlı destansı bir türden esinlenmiştir. Türün en bilinen örneklerinden biri Odysseia'dır.
Riniolo, atölye serisinde günümüz ile MÖ 1200'e (Truva Savaşı ve sonrası) arasında bir analoji kurarak sözlü geleneği geri çağırıyor; Mikenler, Mısırlılar, Babiller gibi Akdeniz bölgesindeki birçok uygarlığın 30 yıl içinde yıkılıp ortadan kaybolduğu, tüm siyasi yapının, teknoloji ve toplumun, uzun bir süre kıtlıklardan, kaynaklar üzerindeki savaşlardan ve ardından salgın hastalıklarla kaybedildiği bu dönemden kurtulanların yalnızca akılda kalıcı şiir ve şarkılar olduğunu hatırlatıyor.
Bir Şiir Denemesi tarihte bir ana geri dönerek, Truva Atı’nın ortaya çıktığı ana geri sızarak geçmişi yeniden yazmaya girişir. Toplamda üç oturumdan oluşacak atölye serisi, Kirke ve Teiresias pasajlarının eşliğinde katılımcılar ile ortak bir şiir örgütleyerek bir 'nostoi' yaratmayı ve bu şiiri bir koro performansına/ses tiyatrosuna dönüştürmeyi hedefliyor.
Atölye sonunda yazılı metin yok edilecek ve eserin sadece ses kaydı olarak kalacak. Atölye dili katılımcının tercihine bağlı, talep edildiği takdirde çeviri sağlanacak.
Filippo Riniolo 1986 yılında Milano'da doğdu. 2011 yılında Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi'nden mezun olduğu Roma'da yaşıyor ve çalışıyor. Araştırmaları şiirsel, politik, sosyal, tarihi ve güncel konulardan oluşuyor. İlgi alanları arasında beden ve iktidar arasındaki ilişki, queer çalışmaları, toplumsal cinsiyet çalışmaları ve postkolonyal çalışmalar yer almaktadır. Araştırma araçları arasında fotoğraf, yerleştirme, performans, ses ve video bulunmaktadır.
Katılım koşulları:

Her atölye 5-10 kişi arasında gerçekleşecek ve etkinlik tüm gruplardan katılımcılara açıktır.

Her katılımcının bir tam oturuma en az bir tam katılımı tamamlaması beklenir.

Atölye fotoğraf, video ve işitsel medyada belgelenecektir. Katılımcılar ses ve görüntü kaydı için izin vermiş sayılır.

Atölyelerde 500 kelimeyi geçmeyen bir ön okumalar yapılacak ve katılımcıların bu okumaları atölye öncesi yapmış olmaları bekleniyor.
