Tom Van Malderen
Artist, Architect
Tom Van Malderen‘s work ranges from buildings to objects, installations and exhibition design. The practice of the Belgium born artist and architect, who lives in Malta, probes the intersections between art, design and architecture, and looks at the material gestures of everyday design and the construction of social space.
At the Mahalla Malta Festival he is displaying his Tables for the 1% at the Palazzo in Zabbar.
I developed a series of works that reflect upon interpretations of ‘publicness’, the creation of boundaries and other social constructs. Except For Access Only is a humorous look at human urges to be part of exclusive groups, the division between public and private, the politics of fear, island-like monocultures and normative rules for design.
