Fatima Wojohat is a young Afghan visual artist and activist whose work transforms personal struggle into powerful collective testimony. She began her practice in Kabul as part of the ArtLords collective, painting murals on the city’s blast walls to reclaim public space with messages of peace, resilience, and women’s empowerment.

After the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, Fatima Wojohat turned to new technologies as a means of artistic resistance. “In 2021, after the Taliban took over, I started making art with my cell phone. I continued creating art against them inside Kabul, Afghanistan, until 2023.” Without access to studios or materials, she taught herself digital art, producing striking visual works on her smartphone. Her imagery often depicts Afghan women and girls as symbols of strength, education, and freedom — balancing fragility with resilience.

The risks of her practice soon became clear. “In March 2023, I left Kabul and went to Pakistan. I was a refugee there, but never stopped my art.” Shortly afterward, she was awarded a full scholarship to Dean College in the United States. There, she began developing her chalk art practice as a powerful medium to raise awareness and amplify voices.

Her works have been presented in international exhibitions, including Diary of a Dreamer at Dean College (USA) and in programs by Human Rights Watch. Today, Fatima continues to use her art as a form of advocacy—amplifying silenced voices and envisioning a future beyond oppression.
