Anna Banout
Designer
Anna Banout is a Syrian-polish designer based in Berlin. Her work revolves around themes of identity and human-object relationships, continuously blurring boundaries between design process and storytelling, craft and technology.
At the Mahalla Share House of the Mahalla Festival she will introduce the QANANI project.
The aim of the QANANI project is dedicated to empower Syrian refugee women culturally, emotionally and also econimically by designing a process allowing them to manufacture simple crafted objects that could be sold outside the camp. QANANI project offers these women a way to generate a minimal income, reducing their dependence on humanitarian aid and therefore raising their sel-esteem and providing them with emotional support needed in this difficult situation they have found themselves in. The project remained a draft until now and couldn't be implemented.
