Sculpture based Installation
The Maltese artist Aaron Bezzina participated into the Mahalla Festival with a site-specific sculpture-based installation with the title Palimpsest of Power. His participation into the Mahalla Festival 2022 in the frame of Parallel Events of the 17th Istanbul Biennial was supported by the Art Council Malta.
He spent one month as artist in residence in Istanbul to prepare this installation at the Greek School in Kurtuluş, Istanbul. His installation was created special for a central location in the entrance hall and the central staircase of the former school.
The shape of the object hanging from the top remembers on a head hanging up site down and moves with the wind.
Read an interview with Aaron Bezzina by Maëla Sanmartín at the InEnArt magazine.

This paleographic phenomenon will inspire the artists of the Mahalla Festival 2022. They will be concerned with the use of resources in a
comprehensive way: in terms of ecological, economic, political, social and communal memory culture.
