from where to where?
Location: Yeldeğirmeni Sanat Merkezi, İskele Sk. 43, Kadiköy 08.09. - 22.09.2021 daily 3:30 - 8:00 pm Interactive Installation: “from where to where?” Çanakkale, Turkey based artist initiative sub created a participatory space. The installation consisted of a map that decentralizes the Global North and offered a new imagination of the world in unusual sizes. The visualization showed the migration movements of the families of a certain group: the artists, their friends and the audience. “from where to where?” was not concerned with the relationship between a beginning and an end point, but with where we are now and where we came from. The installation was formed entirely with the intervention of the audience. Viewers were encouraged to mark their migration route on a decolonized/upside down world map installed in the exhibition space, alongside videos where invited participants and initiative artists shared their own immigration routes. The collective sub is operating since 2017 in a multicultural neighborhood of the city of Çanakkale. They built up a studio based on collaboration, providing residence and exhibition space on a fair share basis. sub aims to create an alternative and safe space where young people can find inspiration and motivation to creatively and freely reflect, proposing open-to-contact, transparent structuring. The participating artists are İlayda Tunca (TR), Melih Aydemir (TR), Rojda Yavuz (BE), Şehmus Biçer (TR), Berçem Gözde Ölmez (TR), Derin Uludağ (TR) and Zeynep Kılıç (TR). Yerleştirme, Küresel Kuzey'i merkezsizleştiren ve alışılmadık boyutlarda yeni bir dünya hayalini sunacak bir haritadan oluşuyor. Görselleştirme, belirli bir grubun ailelerinin göç hareketlerini gösteriyor: sanatçılar, arkadaşları ve izleyiciler. “Nereden nereye?”, bir başlangıç ve bitiş noktası arasındaki ilişkiyle değil, şimdi nerede olduğumuz ve nereden geldiğimizle ilgilidir. Katılıma açık olan yerleştirme, tamamen izleyicinin müdahalesi ile oluşturulacak. İzleyiciler, davet edilen katılımcıların ve inisiyatif sanatçılarının kendi göç rotalarını paylaştığı videoların yanı sıra, sergi alanına yerleştirilmiş dekolonize edilmiş/baş aşağı bir dünya haritası üzerinde göç rotalarını işaretlemeye teşvik edilecek. Sanat girişimi sub, 2017'den beri Çanakkale şehrinin çok kültürlü bir semtinde faaliyet gösteriyor. İşbirliğine dayalı bir stüdyo kurdular, meşru bir paylaşım temelinde konut ve sergi alanı sağladılar. sub, gençlerin yaratıcı ve özgür biçimde kendilerini yansıtabilmeleri için ilham ve motivasyon bulabilecekleri, temasa açık, şeffaf bir yapılanma önererek alternatif ve güvenli bir alan yaratmayı hedefliyor.
